Current operations

The Saltfleetby gas field is the largest UK on-shore gas field and commenced production in 1999. It is located almost a mile and a half below the surface of the land in Lincolnshire between Saltfleetby and South Somercotes and to the west of Skidbrooke. The produced gas is processed at the nearby gas treatment and processing plant at Theddlethorpe. This facility is adjacent to the National Transmission System terminal operated by National Grid. During the last eight years of its production history the Saltfleetby field has produced approximately 1.6 BCM of gas from the seven wells drilled during the initial the production programme whilst maintaining a high safety record.

As part of its total exploitation of the Saltfleetby gas field, WSUK is currently engaged in drilling a new well (SF08) in the southern area of the gas field. Preparations for the drilling of this well are at an advanced stage.

In 2004 WINGAS GmbH identified the Saltfleetby gas field as suitable for conversion to an underground gas storage facility and presently WSUK is seeking approval for this project with the relevant authorities.
